The official carrdpage of The Extraworld by Jasper[✰Interstellar✰]Here you'll find charcater profiles, lore, the offical glossary as well as snippets, one-shots, extras and outtakes. For more updates check out my Tumblr:
Click each image to veiw the character's profile. I made these a while ago, so some of the information may be out of date. The profiles do contain spoilers, so beware!
All of these images were made using picrew. I hope to have them comissioned in a consistent style in the future.
This is only the second carrd I've ever made and I'm still testing this, so apologies if any of the links don't work.
I may add a few more profiles at a later time and I'm also thinking of doing a google site, so the profiles could be contained on the page instead of external links, but we shall see what the future brings.
Below you can ead some excerpts, outtakes and bonus content from The Extraworld, as it goes through editing. If you like what you read here, follow my Tumblr.
I've also made playlists for some of the main ships in this book (obvs spoilers so listen at your own risk)
Firstly, spoiler warning for chapters 1-7!!!
I apologise for the tiny font, but there's a lot to cover here and I didn't want this to take minutes worth of scrolling. If you think it should be bigger just let me know in my asks on Tumblr.
Earth:
The sentient core of the fourth planet from the sun in the Milky Way galaxy referred to as “it/its”. Earth used a bit of its life force to preserve its creations when they were on the verge of going extinct because it loved them so much. The creatures, forgotten stubs and broken branches on the Tree of Life had now been infused with Magick. As the human population grew, Earth created the Extraworld to protect them and eventually granted Magick to select worthy humans to protect the existence of the Extraworld. Earth can create new life at will if it so wishes, but seldom does, preferring to let evolution take its course. Within the Extraworld, evolution has taken place, and after so much time has passed, it brims with magickal flora and fauna.. Because of the Extraworld, Magick is inextricable from both Science and Religion because of Earth-saving evolutionary dead ends with Magick. There is, in this universe (at least among witches and other Magickal humanoids), concrete evidence for the existence of Earth as a higher, somewhat sentient being.Exceptions/Exceptions:
Ordinaries who can feel Magick to a degree. However, very few can truly access it, and even those who can access it have a high difficulty changing it. As the best Extraworld scientists have been able to figure out, it works like a random genetic mutation. After all, Magick is derived from forgotten branches of the tree of life, so that would make the most sense. Many Magick-sensing Exceptions can feel changes in barometric pressure far more easily than most OrdinariesExtraworld:
The Original’s colloquial name for the Magickal pocket dimension where the Earth keeps the Magickally altered creatures which it saved. A few of the original witches live there. It can be accessed only by magikal creatures of sufficiently skilled Magick wielders, this goes for entering and exiting. The Extraworld is not a mirror of The Original Domain or an alternate dimension; it is pockets of physical land on Earth in the remotest of locations, hidden by magic. These pockets can be travelled between via magic portals created by Witches or advanced Wizards. Creatures have the innate ability to create portals effortlessly. The fact that these pockets take up real space on Earth is why Originals encroaching on territory has become a problem.Extraworlder:
The colloquial name for a person originating from (the) Extraworld.Fracturing:
The process in which an Original host is infused with illicitly (without Earth’s permission) procured Magick and said Magick rejects the host, bursting out of them in a desperate attempt to escape, thus Fracturing them (rendering them Fractured). The infusion of Magick in bodies not meant for it fundamentally alters said body’s composition, typically for the worse. Fracturing caused leeching of pigment from the body (ie, hair, irises, skin) and, in some cases, growing of additional bodily features (ie, eyes, horns, tails, limbs) and not always in the “expected” places. For most, Fracturing meant death. And for a very few (some would call them lucky, others would call them anything but), it meant they now held Remnants of Magick.Fractured: (this term is like “deer” as in the plural shares a spelling with the singular)
A relatively novel term referring to one of the 100 Original children (most of whom are now adults) who were infused with Magick by scientists in hopes of creating humanoid Magick-wielding weapons with Earth’s permission despite their lack of understanding. The project failed miserably as the Magick rejected the Original hosts in a process called Fracturing, killing the majority of the subjects. Extensive studies have not been done on the remaining subjects for a variety of reasons, but they appear to have a physiology similar to Exceptions. The surviving subjects are able to use very specific forms of Magick (observed case 1: shapeshifting due to unstable form, Observed case 2: pathokinesis) but cannot cast spells. It is unknown if they possess the ability to enter Extraworld.Original: (note: previously called Ordinary + still referred to as this by some Originals)
A creature who possesses no Magickal abilities nor lineage with a Witch or other creature. They are called Originals because their domain existed before Earth created a divergent trunk of the Tree of Life.Original Domain: (note: previously called Ordinaryworld + still referred to as this by some Originals)
The dimension of the fourth planet from the Milky Way Galaxy’s sun which was created by the natural course of the universe before any of Earth’s tampering. Earth has no control over this domain.Remnant(s): (A term for both a person and an object.)
Remnant, as an object, is residual Magick left either intentionally or unintentionally in someone or something. Remnants can be used to provide protection, but are more commonly used as curses. It should be noted, however, that “commonly” is used relatively here as curses are extremely taboo and are only used in extreme circumstances (or maliciously, as the Spirits.) Remnants, for living beings, are very painful and over time can spread like an infection until an agonising death. The Fractured possess Remnants from their infusions, which are what allow them to access and use Magick.A Remnant, as a person, is a non-Original humanoid who was possessed by a Spirit. This possession leaves a scar on their own Magick, which changes how it behaves and how it can be used. It does not become dark, but has a “texture” more similar to darker Magicks.Severed:
Any living thing which has been absorbed by the Spirits. This is not to be confused with possession, as the body is not taken control of, but rather has had its life-force absorbed, rendering it a shell of sorts. Extraworld scientists aren’t quite sure what to make of the phenomenon, but it has been hypothesised that brain function has been severed from the body. Bodies of the Severed do not degrade. If the Spirits were vanquished, all Severed would be returned to their original state as if no time had passed.Spirits:
Beings which behave similarly to bacteria in the sense that they operate strictly on instinct to feed and multiply. They were created when Original scientists harvested magick without permission for study. In an attempt to create human weapons, the scientist infused their 100 test subjects (children between the ages of 1-18) with the stolen magick. When the magick inevitably rejected the hosts, it ripped through them. But it wasn’t only the hosts that were changed; the process had corrupted the magic, turning it into something twisted, partly because of the scientist's efforts and the magick’s attempt to defend itself. Some of it ran off into the Original Domain, but what was captured again by the scientist was released back into the Extraworld, where, ruined, it caused terror.Witch: (note: all magickal creatures have magic, Witches are only humans)
One of (or a direct descendant of) the ten humans Earth gave Magick to a millennium ago. Witches can be of any gender. All Witches are immortal and unable to bear children to prevent magick from being spread. It is incredibly difficult, but not impossible, for a Witch to have a child, made easier only by true love of the romantic or platonic kind. If a Witch has a biological child, they will lose their magic. After a great many centuries, some of the Witches grew tired of eternal life, so Earth granted them descendants by magical conception. These children resembled their Witch parent as any child would, but also partially resembled Earth and were thus considered sacred for granting the tiniest of glimpses into Earth’s true form. The elder Witches trained these children until they came of age and were then allowed peaceful, painless deaths. None of the original Witches remain. There weren’t always Witches, as Original tales have assumed. They are far newer than most realise. Magick was never meant for humans, but as they evolved, grew and settled down, they busied themselves with hunting, for sport now. And with the ever-expanding empires, Earth ran out of room to hide its creatures. They could no longer exist alone. So Earth sent its creatures to find humans worthy of bearing its secret. Some creatures were lost on the quest, but from then on, the chosen would bear Magick. A fraction of the power Earth itself holds. This went on for many centuries. But as the modern age dawned, witchcraft gave way to bigger concerns. Humans all but forgot of their fairytales until they became just that, old stories. As humans stopped believing in fairytales and stopped searching for Earth’s creatures, they needed less protection, and the Witches faded away. However, as humans take more and more land, the Extraworld is at risk once again, and Witches will be needed now more than ever.Wizard: (note: all magickal creatures have magic, Wizards are only humans)
A human of any gender who learns magick via extensive study and devotion to Earth. Wizards must be trained from infancy for a minimum of two decades. There are only five wizards. The human does not have to be magical from the start to become a wizard, but nearly always has some connection to magic to even be aware of the Extraworld. Some creatures, such as the fae and mermish people, choose to study to master types of magick they aren’t born with (ie, a mermish person who wants to learn fire spells). Some career path training for humanoids involves becoming a lesser wizard of sorts. They can access limited forms of magic like spells designed to help in their profession, usually via enchanted objects or regular offerings to Earth. However, this usually isn’t necessary unless they are doing a job outside of their speciality or magickal inclination, which is uncommon. (Apothecaries make concoctions with naturally occurring magickal fauna, but are not inherently wizards as they only mix compounds as opposed to altering them.)
